A glittering parade of 175 classic Ford Mustangs, led by the next-generation 2015 model, thrilled visitors to the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, the Silverstone Classic 2014. The track parade around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit was part of the Mustang Owners Club’s 50th birthday celebrations with a record collection of ‘Pony Cars’.
“The Silverstone Classic and the Mustang Owners Club half-century celebrations are the ideal stage to introduce the new Mustang,” said Anthony Ireson, Ford Britain marketing director. “The car has been designed from the outset to appeal to its traditional fans. It has the key design elements which evoke the essential character of the classic Mustang, allied to outstanding power outputs and a sophisticated new chassis.”
The display and parades are not the only attraction for Mustang followers at the Silverstone Classic. There will be two Mustang Celebration Trophy races for track-prepared pre-1966 Mustangs and their touring car rivals from the same era. Plus displays featuring hundreds of models spanning all 50 years of the Mustang including legendary machines from movies such as Gone in 60 Seconds, American Gangster and Bullitt are on show throughout the weekend, as is the all-new 2015 Mustang.
Mark Hayden, Anniversary Event Organiser of the Mustang Owners Club GB, said: “We wanted a location for our 50th anniversary that would have appeal for our 1400 members and the Silverstone Classic was the obvious choice because of its timing, central location and wide range of attractions. We are looking forward to the track parade, the Mustang races and our anniversary party on Saturday night. 250 Mustangs are expected over the weekend making it the biggest gathering in Europe.”
